Since the sixteenth century, the Pug has become the favorite and most fashionable pet dog in European courts, reaching its peak in the Victorian era. Pugs were a favorite in temples in Tibet, and they were later imported into Japan. Continuing to travel to Europe, this dog quickly became a royal pet in many countries and even became the official dog of the Dutch Royal Family. It was the little Pug who saved Prince William’s life when he alerted his owner to the attack in 1572. When the British invaded the imperial palace in Beijing, they found several Pugs and Pekingese. and bring them back to England. The American Kennel Club officially recognized the Pug breed in 2021.
