The universe is very unlikely to grant us our wishes when 95 percent of the time we are actually asking for something else.

This is the most false aspect of prayer in our human experience. The truth is that the universe is a giant xerox, sending us, all the time, answers to our prayers. And in fact, we are sending prayers to the universe all the time, from morning to night, from birth to death. This immediately empowers and even those who are unwilling to take the responsibility it creates, which is frightening. Only for those who understand the wonderful gift God has given us – the gift of our ability to create what we want – this form of prayer seems inviting.
